Xeelie attempted to identify the lens we earned last time.  It gives a caster a +2 to hit or to save DCs when an emotion spell is cast through it.  Or was it anger spells.  It does take an extra action and it has to be in your hand, but +2 is pretty good.  Oakwood held onto it for now because he wanted to see if it was the item we needed to open that door we could not open.  We healed up last time so we headed back to that door.  But first, we had to go through the first Wisp room to get to it.  We found that the plants Briscoe replanted in the planters had grown into beautiful flowers.  We eyed them with suspicion but we didn’t have our Druid at the moment to talk to them.  Oakwood blew his Nature check and assured everyone that they were perfectly safe.  He boldly walked across the room and got about halfway across, when they had him flanked, they attacked.  See what happens when you try to help something?

One of the flowers went first.  It crit him for 61.  It then spewed seed pods, getting him and TerStegan.  Oakwood saved and TerStegan critically failed.  Oakwood took 21 of acid and poison damage.  TerStegan took 72 points of damage plus was made prone.  TerStegan wanted to get away from the immobile(?) plants but Oakwood wasn’t going to live through the next plant’s turn.  After some pondering, he used his Helmet to crawl, grab Oakwood, crawl and crawl again.  And then let him go as a free action.  That got them away but not out.  The second plant spewed and both of them saved for 27.  That knocked Oakwood out.  Xeelie moved back to make room and cast Friendfetch.  That pulled them out of the room.  Clarisa then moved, closed the door and cast Shield.  Encounter over, thanks for trying.

Xeeli cast her life boost spell on Oakwood for 32.  We decided to hide in the nearby storeroom to heal up.  Ironically the very room we found the plant stalks that caused the troubles.  The GM wanted us to run through the healing process.  A combination of Treat Wounds and Dash of Herbs from Oakwood and focus point spells from TerStegan and Xeelie and we were back up in 20-30 minutes.  We needed a new plan.  We hoped they were immobile so maybe we could blast away from the doorway and close the door before they could spew more seed pods.  We assumed fire was good but we didn’t want to “waste” limited use Fireballs from spells and wands.  Oakwood could use unlimited Blazing Wave cones but they only did 6d6.  And we’d be fighting in another hallway, making things tougher.  We got into position and rolled initiative.  Oakwood was last, not first but the GM just moved him to the top since everyone was just going to just delay anyway.

He opened the door and fired.  They saved and failed for 7 and 14 disappointing points.  They did not have weakness to fire, unfortunately.  The first flower uprooted and moved 5.  (Boo!) Now it could use its Thorny Vine and hit for 24.  And hit again for 26.  TerStegan debated charging in but stuck with the plan and he tossed his axe.  He missed.  (Unfortunately throwing is Dex not Str based plus he had corners and friends to throw through and a range penalty to boot.)  He then cast Hymn of Healing on Oakwood.  Clarisa correctly concluded this was going to be a “real” fight and did a Fireball, upped to 4th.  One saved and didn’t so 18 and 36.  Last flower moved 5 feet 3 times but couldn’t attack.  Xeelie did her recall knowledge.  They were weak to holy damage (what?) and slashing caused a burst of acid.  Sorry TerStegan.  They were Blooms of Lashto.   Xeelie then cast Fireball from her wand.   One crit saved and one took 21.

Oakwood was in a tight spot.  He didn’t have the actions to do another cone and move back and he didn’t think he could survive another attack.  Thus far, the flowers had never missed.  His body would complicate the positioning even more.  He decided to Channel Elements, turn on his Nimbus and attack with a single action.  He crit with a fiery swing for 16+4 and then pulled back.  One flower shot at and missed Clarisa 3 times.  (Evidently it was only Oakwood that they couldn’t miss.)  TerStegan turned on his aura, sustained the healing on Oakwood and missed with a thrown axe.  Clarisa did another Fireball.  Both failed their saves for 36.  The other flower shot more vines at Clarisa.  That crit for 41.  It then spewed, getting Clarisa and its friend but missing the rest of us because we were around the corners in the hallway.  Clarisa saved for 18 and the flower failed for 18.  It was immune to the acid part.  Xeelie switched weapons and charged forward.  She hit for 19.

Oakwood cast a Tree in the middle of everyone and moved onto it to get one of them in his Nimbus.  The back one attacked Clarisa, hitting for 8 which the Tree took.  And missed Xeelie and missed again.  TerStegan sustained and missed and missed.  Clarisa did her last Fireball into the room.  One saved and one didn’t.  For 15 and 30, respectively.  Both were blooded.  They had some sort of healing power but we weren’t sure if fire damage stopped it or the fact that they were out of their pots.  The second plant took 10 from the Nimbus.  It then spewed, getting all but TerStegan.  Oakwood saved but the girls failed.  Both heroically rerolled to save.  All took 20.  For its 3rd action, it hit Xeelie for 29 which the Tree took.  Xeelie swung at the front one.  She hit for 22.  And missed.  And then cast fast healing on herself since she was now in front.

Oakwood asked permission and did a Blazing Wave through Xeelie and on them.  All failed the save but he gave Guidance to Xeelie who then saved.  The one in his aura took 28, the far one took 24 and Xeelie only took 4 because of Nimbus protections.  It missed Xeelie and then hit for 24 less 3 from the last twigs of the Tree.  TerStegan sustained and finally hit for 17.  It took 27 because it was weak to slashing.  It died but burst acid on Xeelie and the back Bloom.  She saved and it didn’t.  So, 14 on Xeelie and the bloom took none.  Clarisa did a Flurry of Firey Claws for 24 but 2 was slashing so 34.  Xeelie did a recall knowledge to get more damage and raised her shield.  She moved 10 feet to get into melee and attacked.  She crit for 40 and killed it with piercing.

Oakwood did Dash of Herbs all around and Treat Wounds on Clarisa.  We decided we’d used too many spells to continue on.  Every fight is life or death and we can’t afford to go into anything depleted.  But we wanted to check out that door first.  To accomplish something.  Oakwood used the lens to open the door since it was his bright idea.  It was a large circular room with a glowing fire pit in the center.  It looked like the core of the lighthouse again.  Maybe.  When Oakwood put the lens back into his pouch, it brushed against his Memhenes cloak.  He got a flash of a vision of his ancestor.  She was prone and cowering and in distress.  No doubt fighting random flowers in this dungeon.  And his cloak changed.  It went from old and tattered and became substantial and new.  I.e. leveled up.  Sure Strike and Lose the Path once a day were added.  Ironically, Sure Strike was the only 1st level spell he knew.  But maybe having two is good.

After that, we fled home.  We wanted to take advantage of Xeelie’s existence for any magic item building needed.  However, Briscoe spent all his money last time, modifying his Staff.  TerStegan needed more levels to do what he wanted.  Xeelie was poor and Clarisa was not interested but she did take the anger lens.  Xeelie got a formula to make wands and made herself a Wand of Instant Armor.  She also bought 2 scrolls of Friendfetch.  She then put Ghost Touch on Oakwood’s handwraps.  She then invented the formula for a Size Changing armor rune and put it on his armor.  Meanwhile, TerStegan earned some gold at the bar.  Briscoe wandered about doing Druid things.  Oakwood earned some allowance from his, happy to be mayor and not have a dying daughter, family and gave it to Xeelie who was too busy building stuff for him to earn an income.  The chronicler went to bed at this point but he’s been told that momentum could not be regained.
