    New in gaming

Brian Wade's game in Pathfinder has started.  We're actually on game 4!  We are all learning the system so it's a bit slow and frustrating at times.  Also first level... yeah, you always forget what a drag that is.  Like a traumatic memory.  Can't hit, one shots and failed saves.  Oh, the failed saves.  Sigh.  We just made level 2, so I am sure I am a transformed man.

I updated the Archives to include the most recent games we finished.  I say "recent" with some irony since it hadn't been updated in years.  I mean the blogs were all there but after a few years they get buried in the stack of more recent ones.  What about all the poor innocents who are crying out for those titillating stories and can't find them?  Well, I've got their back.  Look in the Archives.

    Hello and Goodbye

Jon has started a 1st edition D&D campaign after having a bout of nostalgia.  Hello and welcome!  Brian has had an unfortunate case of death, brought on by a virulent bout of Balorism.  Goodbye!

Andy notified us last week that his game is on hold.  We all wish him the best and hope he can restart when it's convenient for him.

    A New World!

Brian is starting a new campaign in the Ravenloft setting.  While he is encouraging odd races from the base books (Player's Handbook, Modenkainen's, XAnathar, Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, Elemental Evil Player's Guide, and Volo's) all other sources are discouraged with the possible exception of Eberron.  Starting racial feat, +2 to stats with a base distribution of 15,14,13,12,10,8.  There will be Heirloom magic items that grow in power (1st, 4th, 8th, 12th).  Campaign is expected to go through level 15th. An additional +1 to any stat is given if a character history is provided.

Cultured

Culture Write-Ups

All three cultures within the game have fairly diverse populations, though each culture tends to have a few dominant races in positions of authority.  As for religion... All the cultures are very tolerant of religious diversity.  In fact, it is actually viewed as "ODD" (or even in some cases a SIN) not to hold a belief in a greater authority.  As honor and piety (a sense of right and wrong) are all closely related.

Just a few broad overview things about the world.  The Zahkar society tends to be a more seafaring community whose cities and communities will be coastal.  Their communities tend to favor a middle eastern type flair with minnerettes, plastered walls with murals and colorful silken canopies.  The Hadhar society tends to be inland and have well-developed farmland resources.  The Hadhar society tends to have a British/European feel with their communities being built more for function than form.  The Elandary have very small communities that are highly nomadic.  The Elandary are a very nature-oriented community.

Though very different, all the cultures have had significant interaction with one another, so you will see aspects of each of the cultures within each other.  You will find that these cultures tend to have 4 guiding factors within their society: Honor, Family, Hospitality and Piety.  The Zakharan and Hadharan societies tend to focus on Honor and Family.  The Elandary culture tends to focus on Hospitality and Piety.  No matter their differences, no matter the Gods that are worshiped... one common belief permeates these cultures... and that is the belief in "FATE".  In fact, there are many Gods of "FATE" worshiped in the world.

Below is a brief description of what each society will tend to be like:
