After trespassing onto the forbidden corridor we were warned away by a telepathic voice. Naturally we ignored the warning. Th voice threatened again and burst open the door at the end of the coridor reveiling a Gug! The GM also hinted there was a concealed enemy by being cagey about mentioning the corner was out of range of Xeeli's revealing lantern. Yes, we all noticed that.
The creature was a Gug, grotesque, an alien aberration with four clawed arms and a terrifying vertical mouth that splits its head open. It had a reaction for counterattacking and had a 15 foot reach. Clarissa attacked with a cantrip with a large range to avoid getting in range, doing minimal damage. On its action it ran into the middle of the party and did a claw atack... on everyone, doing 29-51 to everyone. We also got caught in a Zone of truth and the telepathic voice stated to interagate everyone who missed their save about the Rajani family in the city. Apparently, you had to answer and if you lied you took minor psychic damage and had to roll a Deception roll. The voice now apparently knows almost everything about Xeeli's family, down to this morning's breakfast. I think people volunteered more information than strictly necessay... maybe they were trying to confuse the telepathic creature. Or maybe the players were being players. Between the reaction, 15 foot reach and the AOE attacks we were going up and down like yoyos. The fight was noticably more difficult with only one healer, however the GM pointed out that if Oakwood was there the monster would be tougher, with +2AC and most of our hits... wouldn't actually hit.
Once the creature was dead we moved to surround the concealed creature. With a bit of tial and error and Xeeli's identify we found out it was a Bone devil and we spend some time wittling it down. We spent some time playing wack a mole with the bone develas it dimension doors, clung to walls and basically snuck around while we chased it through various doors. We mostly trapped it in a room with a floor of nails and Clarissa got it with a missile barrage while it was visible just after it downed Ter Steghan. After Briscoe healed him there were door hijinx involved. Briscoe got persistent poison and Clarissa killed it with a missile barrage while Paul stepped out.
We went back to town to rest and then went to explore. The first door we opened on our return was a small room with a imp and a book. It seemed pretty chatty and nonhostile. He told us where the boss demon was (the locked door with the pentagram) and said we needed the amulets carried by the devils to get past the barrier. He also told us about the angry spirit (that the GM forgot about) in the pillar room... which is the room full of monsterlocked in stasis. We then went to the room to the north, found some stairs down. From the stairs we heard two voices speaking wizard technobabble about the quantum magical mechanics of opening and stabiling a portal. I am guessing to hell, though it wasn't explicitly stated. Going into the room we saw a disk affixed by chains about a floor of lava. The two creatures looked like black winged angels. Clarissa engaged them with conversation and found out through some Arcane and Deception rolls that it was indeed an attempt to turn the summoning platform into a permanent gate to hell. Through some inspection rolls from Clarissa and Briscoe we also found the ceiling above the lava had a small drip of water leading us to think that the lake was above and it would be possible to cave it in and flood the lava, removing the power source. Clarissa tried to use deception to make them use the earth from the ceiling to feed the lava and create more lava to cave it in but although it was a decent roll they did not fall for it. After a bit more time the "angels" said they had leached Clarissa of all useful techncial knowledge rgarding the Gates and were about to attack us.
